One of the latest buzz-words when it comes to diets is “paleo”. Many people follow this diet in the belief that it is the way we are meant to eat. But while associate professor Tim Crowe (Australia) agrees that “looking at the foods included in a Paleo-style diet, there is emphasis on minimally processed whole foods, lean protein sources, vegetables, fruits, and healthy fats – a big improvement over the typical Western diet”, he also points out that there is not just one formula for a Paleo diet. He runs through the pros and cons of the Paleo way of eating and delivers findings from several studies into its efficacy in treating those with diabetic tendencies.
